The whole nation has been waiting on pins and needles for now-former FBI Director James Comey to testify in open session before Congress this coming Thursday. There are sure to be many bombshells in that testimony, and it may even reveal that Donald Trump attempted to obstruct justice prior to firing Comey. Most people will be just watching the testimony – but not Trump. Sources within the White House have revealed that Trump plans to do what he does best while Comey testifies: Shoot himself in the foot by live-tweeting the whole thing. The Washington Posts’ Robert Costa said to MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson of the matter:
“I was just talking to some White House officials this morning and their view is that the president himself wants to be the messenger, his own warrior, his own lawyer, his own spokesman. Some outside people, some surrogates will be available.”
:But the president is expected to be tweeting on Thursday in response to Comey, not to stay quiet during the testimony. Because he himself wants to be the one driving the process.”
Now, we all know that Trump likes to tweet. It often embarrasses the nation to the rest of the world – especially when he uses the medium to do things like attack the mayor of London, as he did over the weekend. However, it can also cause him to be backed into legal corners, such as when he threatened Comey with “tapes” of their conversations, or when he accused former President Barack Obama of wiretapping Trump Tower without any evidence. Therefore, this live-tweeting of the Comey testimony is especially reckless.
Trump really must have idiots for staffers. Any responsible White House staffer would absolutely forbid him to tweet at all about this testimony considering the potential for legal problems – and they especially wouldn’t allow unfiltered live tweets from Trump’s fevered mind to be vomited out into the world.
If we thought Trump was embarrassing before, this is sure to take the cake. Pop your popcorn and watch, folks. This will be good.
