During a closed door dinner, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull absolutely roasted Donald Trump in front of a room full of reporters in Canberra. Obviously, Turnbull never thought Trump would discover what he did, but now that the audio recording has been leaked we can only imagine that Trump is going to have a meltdown.
The recording has been released by Australia’s Nine News, which captures Turnball talking about his New York meeting with Trump last month, and then launching into a hilarious Trump impersonation that made everyone in the room laugh their asses off. The audio was recorded by Nine’s political editor Laurie Oakes, who also decided to publish the off the record comments made at the event. In the audio, Turnball’s Trump imitation went like this:
“The Donald and I, we are winning and winning in the polls. We are winning so much. We are winning like we have never won before.”
In a video clip of the speech, Turnbull went far beyond mimicking Trump’s speech patterns – he also added in Trump’s hand gestures! Turnbull continued, even adding in Trump’s paranoia and ties to Russia – which Trump will definitely not appreciate:
“We are winning in the polls, we are, we are! Not the fake polls, Not the fake polls!”
“They’re the ones we’re not winning in. We’re winning in the real polls. You know, the online polls. They are so easy to win. I know that, did you know that? I kind of know that, they are so easy to win.”
“I have this Russian guy, believe me, it’s true, it is true.”
You can listen to the whole brilliant thing below:
After this audio was released, Turnbull responded to the leak via a radio interview, where he tried to defend roasting Trump as “affectionately lighthearted” fun. I think it’s safe to say that Trump would not agree.
