CNN recently retracted a bogus story about one of Donald Trump’s surrogates and fired three employees over it the unfortunate blunder. Now, the network is enforcing new guidelines to make sure this doesn’t happen again, as well as launching an internal investigation. CNN’s swift response to the scandal proves that the network is taking its journalistic integrity seriously, but Donald Trump sees it another way.
In reaction to the firing of those employees, Trump decided to throw a Twitter fit earlier this morning to attack any “fake news” media that dares to report on his Russia investigation. CNN in particular was on the chopping block for Trump today, but the network clapped back with a truly brilliant response to one of Trump’s tweets.
“Fake News CNN is looking at big management changes now that they got caught falsely pushing their phony Russian stories. Ratings way down!”
CNN couldn’t have responded in a better way. Twenty minutes later, the network fired back:
“CNN just posted its most-watched second quarter in history. Those are the facts.”
Trump has regularly attacked the ratings of cable news networks, even as the ratings reported the exact opposite of what he was saying. Many of the networks that Trump has said were “failing” were actually reporting a major rise in subscriptions or viewers – but Trump is the epitome of “fake news” and “alternative facts” so don’t expect him to admit any of that.
This attack on CNN was pathetic. Unlike Trump and his dishonest team, CNN made a mistake and made immediate moves to correct it and make sure that it won’t happen again. Trump, on the other hand, refuses to even apologize or admit to his failings.
